Good Night, Sweet Prince

On December 17, 2007, I had to have Rufus put to sleep. He developed FIP, a fatal virus, on top of the cancer. He had fluid in his stomach and chest and was in liver failure.

I love you, Rufus.

bloody stools

Little bugger woke me several times tonight demanding to be fed. At 5:30 I heard him in the box and went to bury it for him (he has issues) and when I wiped his butt (the things we do for our pets) I noticed blood. The stool was dark but fully formed. He's been particularly stinky lately, but otherwise OK symptom-wise. It's Saturday morning and I have to go to work today (second job and I need the money). I can't afford to take him to the emergency room. This just sucks. It really, really sucks.

Time to call the vet?

He warfed up his food again this morning. He's been warfing a lot lately. I found a huge, disgusting, stinky hairball earlier this week that I'm blaming on him. He's also been wheezing more than usual. I don't know if that's from the heat and stuffiness of this apartment or not.

We have DSL and a hairball

I finally have internet access from home, so maybe I can keep this updated a little better.

Rufus has been hacking up small amounts of hair -- about 3 times in the past 10 days. It doesn't smell bad, so I'm not too worried.

He needs to have his bloodwork checked again. I called yesterday but his vet is away until the 5th. I asked if the covering vet could OK it and she said they don't like to do that. So I scheduled it for the end of next week and she asked me what tests he needed to have done. If I know what tests he needs, then why the F*** do you need my particular vet to OK it? I'm the one paying for the bloodwork, right? It's not like the covering vet can't look at Rufus' record and see that he has indeed had these same tests done on a regular basis for the past freaking year!

Now the furry little bastard is in my closet, on top of the shoerack, spread out across 3 pairs. Spoiled brat.

Hairball at 6 AM

I bought a condo with hardwood floors so it would be easy to clean up after Rufus, so what does he do? He picks the one little area rug near my bed to hack up a hairball. Typical.

His liver levels were high last time he had bloodwork. Not sure when that was.

April 21st. Isn't the Internet wonderful? it will be even more wonderful when I have my own laptop and DSL.

Medicines

Rufus had been warfing more often so the vet put him back to 3 times a week for the Chlorambucil. Now he is taking:

Prednisone (5mg) twice a day
Metronidazole (50mg/ml) 0.75ml twice a day
Ursodiol 0.25ml once a day
Chlorambucil (2mg) three times a week

He had a bad weekend. He threw up his supper Friday night and his breakfast on Saturday morning. I've been feeding him mostly canned food since then and he seems a little better. I need to call his vet.
